Broken Creek Reccy

Broken Creek, near Numurkah, is a popular fishing spot for native species like yellowbelly and Murray cod.  Bait options include worms, freshwater shrimp and yabbies.  The creek is also renowned for its abundant yabbies.

Its source is the Broken River, which diverges from it at Casey’s Weir near Benalla.  The Broken River itself has a major storage facility, Lake Nillahcootie.  From Casey’s Weir, the Upper Broken Creek flows north while the main creek flows west to the Murray River at Barmah.  The Broken River is joined by Boosey Creek and Nine Mile Creek and its lower section receives regulated flows from irrigation channels.

Snowy Creek Re-Visited

As the track gates in the high country open at the end of October friends and I wanted to hunt for deer by walking from the locked gate into sambar deer country to try our luck.  One of us, the youngest and fittest, was lucky to score a young spika stag. Then the doggers turned up making lots of noise and even had a car behind the gates courtesy of a farmers gate they had access to. Well we could still trout fish and hang around camp, which we did for a couple of days.

Snowy Creek Mitta Mitta

As the track gates in the high country open at the end of October I wanted to hunt for deer by walking from the locked gate into sambar deer country to try my luck. Theoretically at least no one would have hunted here for at least three months. So as there is great camping area 20 metres from the closed track into the state forest I thought I'd get in a couple of hunts and some trout fishing to boot. I last visited this area in October last year (LINK) No luck hunting and only one very small brown trout, that dropped of the hook on landing. But great spot with no one there, very unusual for this spot. A very beautiful and peaceful spot.
