Goodbye Nikon I'm Leaving you for a Younger and Slimmer Camera

After my recent Darwin trip with my Nikon camera and lenses I've decided to upgrade to a younger slimmer camera.
I traded in my Nikon gear and went Micro Four thirds with the Olympus OMD EM-1.
Micro Four Thirds (MFT or 4/3) cameras are not only smaller and lighter than a DSLR on the market, but they also have DSLR like abilities. You can take gorgeous images, even in low light, it has incredible speed, and lots of high end features, in my opinion the Olympus OM-D E-M1 is the best Micro Four Thirds camera that you can buy.
Benefits are:
  • Smaller camera (less than half the size and weight)
  • Lighter and smaller lenses
  • Portability
  • DSLR ike features
  • Longer lense focal lengths
  • Built-in Wi-Fi
  • Control your camera from your smartphone
  • Tilting LCD touch screen monitor (screen touch shooting)
  • Silent Mode
  • 5-axis image stabilisation
  •  And more . . .
Sorry Nikon its over, don't call.

Wakool

Images from an overnight camp and fishing trip to the Wakool River in the Whymoul State Forest in NSW just above Barham / Koondrrok on the Murray. This area has a few rivers that form the basis of a major native fish nursery for the Murray River Basin, with major fish holding water like the Wakool River, Murrumbidgee River, Edward River and Billabong Creek all running in a generally South West direction in the region of bordered by Hay, Deneliquin, Balaranarld in the North and the Murray River from Echuca to Robinvale in the South.

Mulwala State Forest NSW

Mulwala State Forest on the NSW side of the Murray River was a nice change from the barren and almost camp site free desert of Lake Hume. Here at Hinces Beach was great camping place despite it having been flooded recently. There were tens of Murray Cod heads pinned to a tree at the rivers edge (more than half must have been under the legal size) but I did not get more than a nibble.

The Goldfields Region

One of the towns in Victorias famous 'Golden Triangle' is Maryborough part of the Golfields region. Between 1851 and the late 1860s Victoria dominated the world's gold output with a total of 80 million ounces (250,000 Kilos) of gold. However, much of Victoria remains unexplored and it is likely that several multi million ounce deposits in the state remain undiscovered. The wealth in the gold rush of the 1800's resulted in many majestic buildings being built in towns throughout the district. Maryborough is one of those towns.
This is the railway station of the town of less than 8,000 people today.

Refraction and Reflection

A rainbow is created when rain is across a landscape and sunlight strikes the water at an appropriate angle relative to an observer for the colour spectrum to be revealed in that place. Light, of course as you would know, appears to be white but is really made up of a mixture of red, yellow, green, blue, violet, orange and indigo light. According to the laws of physics a rainbow will always be in front of you while your back is to the sun. No two people ever see the same rainbow as the eyes of two people cannot occupy the same place in space at the same time, each observer sees a different rainbow because the raindrops are constantly in motion so its appearance is always changing. Each time you see a rainbow it is unique to you. The legend that a pot of gold can be found at the rainbow's end originated in Silesia, a part of old Europe in an area located mostly in present day Poland with smaller parts also in the Czech Republic and Germany. It was told that angels put the gold there. The most famous of all rainbow legends is that at the end of every rainbow lays a pot of gold guarded by the mischievous mythical creature the Leprechaun. Like a parody of all materialistic pursuits you can never actually get to the end of a rainbow because it moves relative to your position, as long as the rain and sun is producing the phenomenon.

Sunny Brunch

Today on a sunny verandah of a Cafe named below and located at the end of Middle Head Road opposite HMAS Penguin, some relo's and I had a very nice brunch of poached eggs, bacon, field mushrooms and tomato on a sour dough toast. Afterwards we wandered through the retail sections and browsed its wares.

Formerly Known as Callan Park Hospital for the Insane

The grounds and buildings of what were formerly known as Callan Park Hospital for the Insane from 1878 to 1914. It's on the shores of Iron Cove on the Lilyfield side, just 5 Km from Sydney's CBD. In 1915 the facility was renamed Callan Park Mental Hospital, and again in 1976 to Callan Park Hospital then finally in 1994 to Rozelle Hospital. It was vacated in 2008, when all the services and patients were transferred to Concord Hospital. It is a decaying mess now and I would think some of it is of significant heritage value. The New South Wales Government has not revealed its intentions for the 42 hectare site but it would make a great site for appropriate dwellings if the valuable assets were retained. The next Liberal fascists that get into power will probably bulldoze the site, cut down all the trees, replace the grass with rubber playground surface and put up a fine Metricon / Meriton style multi story flat complexes surrounded by vibrantly coloured planter boxes filled with non-indigenous plants. Should sell like hot cakes:)
